Strong performances by Seniors Alex Watt (All-State Honors), Paige Kvartunas, & Anna Barber, Juniors Lauren Blackburn & Marlena Allen, Sophomore Shelby Locke, and Freshman Maddie Wittich, the Lady Spartans took 3rd behind perennial powerhouses Lake Braddock and Midlothian.

Spartan Girls XC Team Regional Runner-Up!!!
The WSHS Spartan Girls XC Team finished as runner-ups in the Northern Region XC Championship with one of the highest finishes in WSHS Girls XC history.
Paige Kvartunas held off 2 of Lake Braddock's finest to finish as Northern Region Champion in a School-record 17:36, in what MileStat.com termed a "scorching performance". Strong performances by Seniors Alex Watt & Anna Barber, and Juniors Lauren Blackburn & Marlena Allen ensured the remarkable showing by the Lady Spartans.
The Lady Spartans run next at the VHSL State Cross Country Championships, and hope to continue the magic.
On the Boys XC Team side, Junior Colin Taylor finished a strong 7th in the Region with a time of 15:28, and will compete in the VHSL meet this Saturday, as well.

10.28.09--WSHS Spartans Win Girls XC Patriot District Championship!!!
Paige Kvartunas Girls XC Patriot Distric Champion!!!
For the first time in over 30 years, the Spartan Girls XC team is the Patriot District Champion. Anchored by strong performances by Paige Kvartunas, Alex Watt, Anna Barber, Lauren Blackburn, and Marlena Allen, the Lady Spartans de-throned defending District Champion, Lake Braddock. The Lady Spartans advance to the Northern Region Championships as one of the favorites to win the Region.
Paige Kvartunas crossed the Finish Line as Patriot District Champion in 18:01, 15 seconds ahead of runner-up, West Potomac's Julianne Bigler.
Congratulations also to the Spartan Boys, as well. Finishing 4th in the District qualifies them for Regionals, anchored by District Runner-up Co-Captain Colin Taylor, and fine running by Co-Captain John Locke, James King, Connor Burke, and Niko Sward.
